Former point to pointer Kilmurry Kid overcame an absence of 529 days to win the Tramore Racecourse 1912-2012 Centenary Handicap Steeplechase at Tramore today, credited Co Limerick trainer John Long with his fifth win of the season.
Ridden by Mikey O'Connor, the son of Witness Box led from four out and went clear approaching the straight. However on the run-in, the four time point to point winner swished his tail but in the end held on for a length and three parts win over Big Jemmy
Afterwards Long stated “Kilmurry Lad has had some small problems but we've got him back. We took our time with him and he's been in since last April.
“I was just a bit worried about the ground as he'd like it a bit better. He's entered again at Punchestown in an amateur handicap chase so if he goes there Mikey will be able to ride him again.”
