Charlie Siringo (2/1) got that elusive first victory in the extended two and a quarter mile maiden hurdle at Downpatrick.
The six-year-old gelding got off the mark at the 14th time of asking (placed three times over hurdles).
He came with his challenge two out and soon hit the front. He moved clear at the last and strode in by five lengths for Noel Meade. Mr Caplan finished second at 12/1 and was four lengths clear of Whinny Hill (100/1).
Jockey Eoin Walsh said: "He always hinted at promise, he had a couple of placed efforts on heavier ground and I think the bit of nicer ground today brought out that bit of improvement.
"It is lovely racing ground, lovely bit of juice in it.
"I got a dream run around - I got a gap down the inside and I didn't want to leave the rail, so I took it and kept going forward and he galloped all the way to the line."
