Character Actor benefited from a well judged Martin Ferris ride to cause a 14/1 upset to win the Graun Hill Suite Beginners Chase at Tramore today.

Jockey Davy Russell, who took a heavy fall from Alfa Beat in the Grand National yesterday and missed two winning earlier rides today, also missed the ride on Annie Other (partnered by Andrew Lynch) who looked a possible winner at the second last fence. However Ferris produced Character Actor to lead soon after that obstacle before staying on well on the run-in.

Winning trainer Aidan Kennedy was not immediately available for comment but Ferris did say “Character Actor was good enough to win two bumpers but he lost his way a bit since. I had been dropping him out over hurdles but he had been struggling.

“When he got the lead today he went on and jumped the last two fences really well - he might 'go in' again.”
