Wayne Lordan, fresh from a double at Down Royal yesterday evening, was again seen to good effect as Light Storm Cass took the Littlewoods Ireland Ladies Day Maiden. Papaya was all the rage in this extended 1m3f event being supported on track at Wexford from 8/15 into 2/5 but she folded tamely enough at the business end.
The hot-pot was sent to the front away from stalls but Declan McDonogh was hard at work entering the straight, and she was soon headed in turn by Burnt Sienna (7/1) and Light Storm Cass.
The Tommy Stack-trained 4/1 chance kept on best inside the final furlong to score by a length, with the favourite just holding on for third another four and a quarter lengths back.
Lordan said, “She travelled well and got a nice lead, although she pulled up a bit when she got there. She likes the ground and hopefully there will be a bit more improvement from her.”
