Casey the Star in county Down
Jockey David Casey moved onto the 23 winner mark for the season with a hard fought win on the Charlie Swan trained Garryowen Star in the Bet With The Tote Handicap Chase at Down Royal today.
Casey forced the nine year old gelding ahead on the run-in to narrowly defeat Lascalahall and Quartetto
Afterwards Swan joked “I think I nearly had to work harder than David (Casey) there as I was cheering him on so much!”
“He gave the horse a good ride and while we knew he’d stay, he had probably gone a bit clever in his old age. His handicap mark has probably gone a bit high (114) over fences and we decided to try hurdling again recently.”
