Seskin Flyer gained a win either side of Christmas Day as the Pat Carey trained today collected the Mr. Binman Handicap Chase to add to his Thurles win on Saturday.

Drama has followed the gelding in recent days as he was permitted by the Thurles Stewards to run at the last minute with his jockey carrying 5lbs overweight, as no replacement rider could be found to ride at the correct weight.

Today, returned the even money favourite, he was arriving to challenge leader The Ballyboys under Donie McInerney, approaching the final fence but his rival dramatically ran out through the wing of that last fence. That left Seskin Flyer to come home the two and three parts of a length winner over Mindsmadeup

Chuffed trainer Carey was still basking in the glory of Saturday's win and later commented “that's the cream on the cake after the other day!

“The place (his own native Thurles) went mad after he won on Saturday and it was like Cheltenham — I never saw anything like it. I heard this hullabaloo in the stand and I never heard anything like it at Thurles.

“I had other good winners, that we backed and everything, but that winner was brilliant.”

He added “he is a grand oul' horse. He'll get more weight for winning but I wouldn't be surprised to see him win again. He is genuine out and is a great jumper; when you're good to jump like that, you have a right chance.

“He doesn't win every day but he'll be in the money and he goes on any ground.

“He'll go for a little hurdle race next as he is well handicapped over hurdles.”
