Capall proves brave in tight finish
The williamhill.com Handicap Hurdle produced a thrilling finish with Steve Capall showing great determination to land the spoils.
Paul Carberry, who just returned to action on Monday, was made to work hard aboard the gelding to secure his first winner since his injury. The Rebel Returns looked set to land the spoils as he grabbed the lead on the run-in but he had no answer close home as Noel Meade's charge battled back doggedly to snatch victory.
The winner was greeted in the enclosure by owners Fortysomething Syndicate which is headed by TV personality Hector Ó hEochagáin.
"Barry Geraghty probably woke him up last time at Kilbeggan. He stays and stays forever. Paul was probably as tired as him at the finish!" said Meade.
"After his last run we put him over fences and he jumps well so that will be his long-term target.
"He's entered on Sunday and originally I wanted to keep him for that but all the syndicate were coming today so I ran him. He could still run again on Sunday."
