Grand Canyon provided Amanda Mooney with a welcome success when causing a 25/1 shock in the Bulmers Live At Leopardstown Handicap.

The dual purpose High Chaparral gelding made good headway early in the straight to lead over a furlong out, and came home strongly under Sean Davis.

The six-year-old had three and a half lengths to spare at the line over Try Again while the winner’s stablemate Hernandoshideaway was just a head further back in third.

Mooney, who is based near Dunboyne in Co Meath but is a regular user of the facilities on the Curragh, recorded her only previous success with Repeater on Guineas weekend at the Curragh nearly two years ago.

Ms Mooney said, “He can be a lazy horse at home and has had a wind operation. That’s his first time to run since his wind op, and he did it well.

“He’ll stay two miles, is a nice genuine horse and a real favourite in our yard. He jumps well so we should have some fun with him over the summer.

“I think he’d be better on better ground but they have done a great job here getting it back in good shape after racing on Saturday.

“I have seven in training at the moment from two-year-olds to older horses and have claimed a few from races in England.”
