Greek Canyon cemented his position as one of trainer Ger Lyons’ favourites when completing a hat-trick in the space of just over three weeks in the Tipper Road Rated Race at Naas.
The grey gelding was produced with a well-timed challenge by Colin Keane to bring up the treble, and bring the geldings career tally to six wins. In Salutem (4/1) made the best of his way home by getting a fine run up the far rail but Keane, partnering his 12th winner of the campaign, got the 7/1 chance to the front about 50 yards out to beat that rival by a neck. Fastidious (11/1) was a further two lengths back in third.
Lyons said, “He’s one of my favourites in the yard, and a lovely honest horse. He likes this track having won here before, and we’ll find another rated race for him. He owes us nothing in 2013.”
The Co. Meath handler was also full of praise for the track at Naas saying “It’s on the soft side of good which suited our fella but that’s the best condition this track has been in all year.”
