Cannon relishes Navan's Hill
The money certainly came for Cannon Hill (11/2 into 7/2) in the jogforjockeys.ie Race at Navan and those that invested in the Holy Roman Emperor gelding were undoubtedly thrilled to see Leigh Roche's mount produce a decisive finishing kick to beat the front-running Banna Boirche
A maiden winner at Gowran and since seventh in a Listed event at Naas, Cannon Hill hit top gear at the furlong pole in this extended seven furlong contest and he cleared away close home to prevail convincingly by two lengths.
Cannon Hill is a half-brother to hurdle winner Magnetic Force and to the staying winner, Blue Ridge Lane and on this occasion he was taken to post early by young Galway-native Roche.
The 5Ib claimer explained: "He can be a bit free in the blinkers and Pat Smullen told me I'd be better going down early so as not to get him lit up with the other horses.
"The race worked out well for him. He quickened up nicely between horses."
