Trainer Gordon Elliott completed a Wexford double today, as his Call Me Lyreen had little difficulty justifying 1/4 favouritism in winning the Visit Wexford.ie Novice Chase, under jockey Conor McNamara.
The Grade 2 winning hurdler's task was simplified as 5/1 second favourite Influential Lady unseated at the third, with McNamara taking the lead at the next and making the rest, before beating Trans Wood by four lengths.
Elliott was earlier successful with the Corey McGivern-ridden Dartington and following the trainer's double, jockey McNamara said "it was very straightforward, we went no gallop early and his jumping was sticky, because we were hacking, I let him roll on.
“I ended up having to make my own running and he popped away lovely.
"I hadn't ridden him before but Jack (Kennedy) won on him the last day and gave me a good advice. He did it well and hopefully can go forward again in novice company. He might get further in time, but 2m4f at the moment is lovely for him and he has great form over two miles as well."
