Cailin Alainn takes Kinloch Brae

Thu 29th Jan 2009, 15:33

Twice a Grade One winner (the Drinmore and the Powers Whiskey Novice Chase in 2006) and victorious over the course in the Cashel Fine Art Chase in March last year, Cailin Alainn bounced back to her best to take the Grade 2 MacLochlainn Road Markings Ltd. Kinloch Brae Chase.

Cailin Alainn, Glenfinn Captain and Ponmeoath had it between them up the straight, and when Barry Geraghty on Glenfinn Captain lost an iron at the last, it left the way clear for the Niall 'Slippers' Madden-ridden Cailin Alainn to go on and score by a couple of lengths.

Now a ten-year-old, Cailin Alainn fell twice at Cheltenham when at the peak of her powers but she could have it on her agenda again.

Winning trainer, Charles Byrnes said: "It is good that she is paying her way again. She was well in at the weights and the strong pace suited her. If there is a handy field in the Hennessy she might run there but it is unlikely as she is a long way behind the best. She might go for a handicap like the William Hill at Cheltenham in March."

Meanwhile Barry Geraghty said of Glenfinn Captain: "He clobbered the last when a good jump would have helped."

The non-runners here were Scotsirish (declared in error) and Light On The Broom (lame). (EM)
