Preview CORK 24th Aug
There is a double-header at Cork and Ballinrobe on Sunday, with the former just shading it in the quality stakes.
Action begins at 2.50 and the most valuable prize of the afternoon is reserved for the jumpers in the Kevin McManus Bookmaker Hurdle, which sees Larkwing attempting to concede upwards of 10lb all round.
The soggy conditions scuppered his chance of a prize at the Tralee festival during the week, but he showed his class in the Grimes Hurdle last time and this is easier.
Valain could not land a blow in the Galway Hurdle but, along with Heavenly Blues, will be waiting in the wings should Larkwing fluff his lines.
Adajal did not break sweat when shedding his maiden tag at Wexford and steps back into handicap company for the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle.
A 7lb rise will certainly make life tougher, as will the presence of Kalellshan, who also got off the mark most recently and may have more scope for improvement than his rival.
My True Romance is maintaining her consistency, although her wins-to-runs ratio is not exactly inspiring, while useful chaser Four Chimneys appeals off an attractive rating.
The Breathalyser, ironically, was disqualified when he failed a drugs test at Gowran so he is a winner in all but name in the Goggin & Buckley Maiden Hurdle, but Derinlaur is an interesting recruit from the bumper arena.
Aidan O'Brien would like to win the Coolmore One Cool Cat Maiden and has freshened up Four Star General since a couple of costly defeats back in the spring.
Nafaath chased home Ballydoyle's Drumbeat on his debut and sets the standard on form, but any support for John Oxx's stoutly-bred newcomer Vitruvian Man must be noted.
Over at Ballinrobe, the concluding Water Towers Chase is probably the best race on the card and a clear round from Lukie Victor should see him collect the spoils.
