Racegoers west of the Shannon have been well catered for in recent weeks and Ballinrobe hosts a seven-race National Hunt card this evening with the action getting underway at 5.25pm.
Charles Byrnes enjoyed winners on both sides of the Irish Sea over the weekend with Pairc Na Ngael successful at Kilbeggan on Saturday evening and Run For Oscar taking a nice prize in good style on the Flat at Haydock yesterday.
The Ballingarry trainer has four runners at Ballinrobe and the quartet, all partnered by Byrnes’ son Philip, are worthy of close scrutiny.
The Byrnes father and son combination are represented by Wonder Laish in the opening Broderick’s Electrical Claiming Hurdle and the ten-year-old probably has most to fear from Vado Forte a winner over fences last time at the Galway Festival. Estepona Sun represents the pair in the Carney’s Eating House Maiden Hurdle, while Vinnie Is Busy looks set to go off favourite in the RED MILLS Irish EBF Auction Maiden Hurdle — the feature race of the evening at 7.25pm. Grozni is another towards the head of the market in the C J Sheeran Ltd Handicap Hurdle and, depending on how the previous three from the yard get on, could have the bookmakers sweating by 7.55pm.
The going at Ballinrobe is currently described as good. Watering continues and the weather forecast is for a warm, dry day with temperatures of around 19C.
