Alan Persse was seen to good effect partnering his second winner as Button Popper just held on to record a 25/1 shock in the Supervalu’s Roscommon Apprentice Handicap.
The camera angle at the line has fooled many here in the past, and it was certainly a surprise to many when the winning margin was given as a head over Bouquet Garni
The latter finished strongly on the far side, and his rider Andrew Slattery jumped off in the spot reserved for the winner, but the notorious angle at Roscommon greatly favours horses on the stands’ side. Texas Radio was two and a quarter lengths back in third.
Winning trainer Austin Leahy said, “He rides well that boy. He has a future and did exactly as I told him. Conor Hoban rode her the other day and said your going too far so we pulled her back in trip.”
Persse was previously successful on Dameselfly at Leopardstown last October.
