Darren Bunyan’s horses are back in form and the Curragh trainer turned out his second winner in four days when Limit Long (14s into 7/1 before the off) refused to be passed in the Gilna's Cottage Inn (Q.R.) Race.
Finian Maguire made the running on the Lope De Vega gelding but it looked like Jamie Codd would complete a quick double when Raamez (5/1) ranged upsides at the furlong marker.
There was contact between the two protagonists but it was Limit Long who pulled out a bit more to score by half a length with the 6/4 favourite These Days keeping on to be a further half a length away back in third.
Highly tried in stakes races at two and three, the 5-year-old’s only previous win came in a Fairyhouse maiden last year.
Maguire said:- “I'm delighted. Darren told me his homework was very good and if he ran like he works at home he'd go very close and in fairness he was spot on.
“He said to let him bounce and he jumped well. Pulling up the lads were saying they thought I was going a million but I was always happy because he was in his comfort zone.
“He battled well, I thought when Jamie (Codd, on Raamez) got to my girth I was beat but he stuck his head out for me. He's a tough little horse.”
