Joseph O'Brien's Buckaroo brought up plenty of bets when mastering Stone Age in the opening juvenile maiden in Galway.
The even-money favourite, from 7/4, stalked Stone Age in this extended mile contest and closed on the home bend.
Stone Age stuck to his task on the rail, however, Buckaroo collared him in the final furlong and was kept up to his work by Declan McDonogh to score by a neck.
The runner-up also drew support from 7/4 to 11/8. There was s six-length gap to third home Golden Beach who was popular this morning before talking a walk in the market.
Assistant trainer Brendan Powell said: “That was good. Joseph mentioned about him going for the Beresford next, so that's a possibility.
“Declan said with a big horse like him he was just chopping and changing legs coming down the hill, but as soon as he hit the rising ground he came back underneath him and he's gone on again.
“He can only get better, he's a massive big horse, and please God he's got a big future.
“He's going to make up into a lovely three-year-old, he's still a baby. They liked the second horse and they pulled six lengths clear so that tells you something.”
Buckaroo built upon a third place on debut at Killarney this month.
