Bright Horizon a second winner for Reid
Twenty year old apprentice jockey John Reid recorded his second career winner when partnering Bright Horizon to win the Evening Herald – The Dubliner On Thursday Handicap at The Curragh today for his employer Aidan O’Brien.
A winner at the venue a fortnight ago, Bright Horizon chased the leaders but needed a strong drive from Reid to eventually get his head in front close home, for a three parts of a length win. The winner did drift left close home but there was no alteration to the result following a Stewards Enquiry.
O’Brien had not yet returned from Epsom but Reid, from Newtwopothouse near Mallow, did report “that’s my second winner – my first was Utrillo (for Aidan O’Brien) at Tipperary last October and today’s ride was his 17th.”
There was a sting in the tail for Reid however, as both he and second placed rider Sam James were subsequently suspended for two days for careless riding in the closing stages of the race.
