Black Bear just pipped in Secretariat
The Aidan O'Brien-trained Black Bear Island looked like securing his first top level success in the Secretariat Stakes, only for favourite Take The Points to catch him on the line.
The runner-up's jockey Johnny Murtagh said: "The last 100 yards he just died.
"We were drawn great and he took me into the race which had no pace.
"I moved up to control the race and I thought after half a mile I was going nicely. Then in the last 100 yards the winner just had me, but he ran good."
The Beverly D Stakes also stayed in the US following a convincing performance by Dynaforce, who beat the Alain de Royer Dupre-trained Alnadana.
Mad About You, trained by Dermot Weld, disappointed in a race without pace to finish second last.
Her jockey Pat Smullen said: "They went too slow through the race. My filly did too much, she never really settled for me. That was the fear before the race whether there would be any pace."
