After lengthy deliberations over the photo finish it was hardly surprising to here trainer of winning horse Kimbay Noel 'Iggy' Lawlor, say: "That's not good for my heart." His charge had just edged Fast In The Wind by a nose in the Dundalk Stadium - Light Up Your Night Handicap.
"That's nice for Derek (McCormack, successful rider) as it's his birthday today," further explained Lawlor.
"Him and Rory (Cleary) do all the work on them at home. She was unlucky here last week to run into Danz Gift and will keep going up here for the winter."
Seven to two chance Kimbay was never far away on her way to a fourth sprinting victory at Dundalk.
The Stewards interviewed D.A. McCormack, rider of Kimbay, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that D.A. McCormack was in breach of R10(3)(e) by hitting his horse other than down the shoulder or on the hind quarters, R10(3)(f) by using his whip with excessive frequency and R10(4) by failing to give his mount time to respond to the whip and consequently cautioned him having taken his good previous record into consideration.
