Betheholygobbs finally gets there
The connections of Betheholygobbs were rewarded for their patience as the now nine-year-old, who began his career in a point-to-point as far back as February 2006, landed his first racecourse success in the www.thurlesraces.ie Handicap Chase under Tom Doyle.
Top-weight and favourite Burnt Oil Babe looked to have this contest in the bag when getting to the front in the straight but the blinkered Betheholygobbs in the well-known Hamers Flame and How's The Boss colours of Edward Farrell, battled back on the run-in and went on to prevail by three lengths.
Winning trainer John Brassil said: "The owner Eddie Farrell is from Castletownroche in Cork and I'm happy this horse has won for him as he has been terribly unlucky. He has never had too much luck in life but he got a race today. He stayed going well and he'll go for another handicap now."
