- Beroni sluices up in Troytown
Beroni sluices up in Troytown
On his second start for Willie Mullins, Beroni turned the Troytown Handicap Chase into a procession, the best-backed horse in the race (9s into 7s) winning by four lengths in the hands of Paul Townend.
All the way up the straight it looked a matter of whenever Townend decided to ask the Accordion gelding to go and settle the issue and he eventually led after two out before going on to very easily eclipse Casey Supreme
Mullins, winning his first Troytown, said: "He jumped fantastic and he obviously stays that trip and plenty more. That opens up a good few more options over fences, though he'll probably get too much of a penalty for the Paddy Power.
"Padraig O'Rourke, husband of the winning owner, Margaret, is a director at Gowran, so we might take a look at the Thyestes. The Welsh National would be a possibility too.
"He has a bit to go to be a Graded horse but I think he could make it. It is grand to get the Troytown on to my C.V., it is a good race to win."
For Townend this was another big chase for his C.V. to add to a Leinster National on Emma Jane, an Ulster National on Ballytrim and the Munster equivalent on Treacle
William Hill gave Beroni a 50/1 quote for the Aintree Grand National.
