Trainer Tommy Stack worked the oracle with Beacon Lodge as the eight-year-old scored in Tipperary on his Irish debut.
He last raced in England for Dandy Nicholls in a claimer in July when finishing fourth. However, he relished this spin in a 60 – 100 handicap partnered by Billy Lee.
From mid-division, the pair made their move down the outside to grab the lead inside the furlong pole and power on to win by two and a quarter lengths at 14/1. Bubbly Bellini also at 14/1, stayed on from seventh to second in the latter stages, half a length in front of Barack (8/1).
Afterwards Liz and Tommy Stack commented: “He likes the ground. We have him about six weeks and we don’t know that much about him. “We’ll see what the handicapper does with him. He was a good horse when younger, but he had lost his way a bit.”
As a two-year-old Beacon Lodge won the Group 3 Mountgrange Stud Stakes in Newbury in 2007. His last success came in Haydock’s Listed Spring Trophy Stakes in 2011.
Ronan Whelan received a one-day suspension for weighing in 1.5lbs above the correct weight on Morga who finished fifth.
