Baraniya justified good support to land the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at Roscommon.
Trained by Dermot Weld for the Aga Khan, the daughter of Iffraaj showed promise in a Naas maiden last autumn and was backed here from 100/30 into 5/2 favourite.
Oisin Orr had her up with the pace throughout but waited until the final furlong before really asking for an effort and got on top close home to beat Laggata by three quarters of a length.
Maud Gonne Spirit made a pleasing debut a further two lengths away in third.
Orr said, “She travelled around nicely. I got a lovely lead into the race and didn’t want to go for her too soon. I held onto her till the last furlong and she got it done in the end.
“She had a nice run first time out and showed the benefit of that today.
“I think she’ll improve from this and will be a nice filly going forward.”
