Ballydoyle bagged both juvenile maidens run over consecutive days at Gowran, as their January justified 1/2 favouritism to win today's Gowran Park Fillies Maiden.
The Parthenon overcame greenness to win yesterday's colts' race for trainer Aidan O'Brien and jockey Wayne Lordan, who followed up with Kingman-sired January, which raced with the pace and held on to beat faster-finishing barrier trial winner Va Va Vroom by a head.
Ballydoyle's representative Chris Armstrong commented “she obviously had a very eye-catching run when Wayne rode her behind a very smart filly on debut (at the Curragh) and he gave her a lovely ride today.
“She will improve a lot from coming here as going around a bend is a great education.
“We thought if she won her maiden today that the Airlie Stud Stakes, coming back to six furlongs, or being one who will get further, could be one for the Silver Flash (over seven furlongs). She is probably better going up in trip but Wayne said she will improve a lot.
“She is definitely a lovely filly for the back-half of the season.”
