Odds-on punters suffered another blow at Punchestown today when 2/5 shot Foxrock finished a well held third behind the Colin Bowe trained Kashline in the opening Festival Free Upgrade Offer Ends Today Maiden Hurdle.
Four of the five odds-on 'jollies' at Navan yesterday were overturned but the shortest priced runner of the two days, Foxrock, ridden by Danny Mullins, was labouring well before straight. At the final flight the favourite made a mistake leaving both Kashline and Fergiethelegend to fight out the finish.
Kashline, under good amateur rider Barry O'Neill, eventually held on for a three parts of a length win over Fergiethelegend with Foxrock back in third.
Afterwards Bowe stated “I was a small bit concerned that the ground might be a small bit too tacky but we decided to hold him up for one run as that's how he won his point to points. He has plenty of scope for fences although we might wait until next season to go chasing.”
