Aupcharlie left a number of falls behind him when putting in a fine round of jumping under Andrew Lynch to take the featured Suir Valley Chase at Clonmel.
The eight-year-old gelding fell two out on his reappearance in the Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park but will gain plenty of confidence from this performance.
The Henry de Bromhead-trained gelding took over soon after halfway and, after shrugging off the challenge of Miley Shah with two fine leaps in the straight, the 11/10 favourite kept on well on the run-in to score by over four lengths. Caim Hill was a further 15 lengths adrift in third.
De Bromhead is away in Aintree and Lynch said “He jumped real well apart from one and wasn’t doing a lot in front. Hopefully he’ll improve off it and at least he’s got his confidence back. Win, lose or draw the main thing was to get around today.
“I was happy enough to have some company as he wasn’t doing a lot. Its dead old ground and he’d probably want it loose or nicer ground. Hopefully he’ll keep on the go for the Festivals.”
