As was the case in the 3.55, the two fences in the straight were omitted due to the low-lying sun. The concluding race at Clonmel still went along expected lines though, with 1/2 shot Augustin living up to his billing in the Ballydine Beginners Chase.
It was 20/1 bar two here, and indeed it was 2/1 chance Fire In His Eyes that gave Augustin most to do.
The Willie Mullins-trained Augustin had to work for his victory under David Mullins, but he eventually got on top inside the last for a length and three parts win.
"Chasing was always going to be his game and he goes away on that heavy ground. He stayed at it well and you'd be hoping he'll improve from that," said David Mullins.
Owing to the low lying sun, the Stewards granted permission for fences 1 and 2 to be omitted from this race.
The Stewards interviewed Mr C.L. Murphy, rider of So Influential concerning his use of the whip in this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(f), in that he had used his whip with excessive frequency and having considered his record, cautioned him.
