Fresh from a treble (marred by a six-day whip ban) at Listowel yesterday, Wayne Lordan continued his good run when taking the Thomastown Maiden on the 11/8 favourite Frill
Aidan O’Brien’s half-sister to Garswood went one better than on her previous outing at Naas but had to work hard for victory, seeing off the persistent challenge of Punakha (8/1), who had unseated Billy Lee on the way to post, by a head.
The 2/1 second favourite Baseman made a tardy start and never recovered before keeping on into fifth.
“I was a little bit worried about the draw (15),” said Lordan, “but I jumped well, travelled well but she had a fair look when she got to the front.
“Hopefully she's won without killing herself. I thought it was a good performance and she had a good run the last day.
“She's a big rangy filly and you'd imagine time is going to help her as well.”
