Dermot Weld's explosive start to the new Flat season continued in the second race at Gowran today, when his Serefeli was his second newcomer winner of the day, in the Societies Welcome At Gowran Park Golf Club (C & G) Maiden.
Ridden by Pat Smullen, who also steered Weld's earlier winner Joailliere got serious on the son of Footstepsinthesands in the closing stages but the colt stayed on well for a half length win over Just Be Lucky
Weld, who was recording his tenth winner of the new season, later stated "we had to work at it that time! He had to battle.
"I see him as a handicapper and we'll take it from there but he has won his race now.
"I've had six runners for his highness the Aga Khan this season and that's my sixth winner.
