Another Splendid win for King

Connor King extended his advantage at the head of the apprentice title race when How Splendid opened her account in the seven furlong handicap at Naas.
The Cork youngster has proved the revelation of the 2013 Flat season, and notched up his 22nd success here to leave him seven clear of reigning apprentice champion Ronan Whelan.
A maximum field of 16 went to post for what appeared a competitive event but very few got involved at the business end as a group of five pulled away in the straight.
King’s mount had the bonus of running against the far rail, and the daughter of Oasis Dream kept on well to justify odds of 12/1. Jumbo Steps (7/2) was three quarters of a length back in second, with Sophies Echo (11/2) and Jembatt (7/1) close up in third and fourth respectively.
Winning trainer David Wachman said, “Connor gave her a very good ride, and she deserved to win one of those.”
