Anam doesn't disappoint as Weld records treble
Dermot Weld recorded a treble on the day and his tenth winner of the week as his Anam Allta took the valuable Arthur Guinness EBF Fillies Handicap under Pat Smullen who was recording a quick double and his eight winner of the week.
On just her fourth career start the winning 3yo daughter of Invincible Spirit was sent off the well supported 6/5 favourite.
She tracked the leaders for much of the race before moving into fourth as they turned for home. She then held her head high as she delivered her challenge but under a great ride from Pat Smullen, he pushed her out to score by a length and a quarter. Crystal Morning battled on well to take second at 5/1 under Fran Berry for Jessica Harrington while Gossamer Seed was just a head back in third under Ronan Whelan at 9/2.
Winning trainer Dermot Weld said afterwards: "She is a difficult filly to ride and Pat gave her a very great ride. Pat regarded her as his most difficult ride of the week of our fancied horses.
"She is talented and progressive and she will go for the Listed Fairy Bridge Stakes at Tipperary next (on Thursday, August 18th)."
