October Revolution gave trainer David McGrath a first success of the season with a game display in the beginners' chase at Clonmel.
The 10-year-old son of Turtle Island held a narrow advantage from Matin D'anjou at the last and was driven out to hold his rival by half a length at 25/1.
Matin D'anjou had been nicely backed down to 2/1 but had to settle for a runner-up prize.
There was a gap of nine and a half lengths back to Round Tower in third at 5/1.
Jockey Derek McGrath said: "He was half off the bridle for the first round but stays away at it well and is tough out.
"He surprised me a little bit as he out of it a bit with the ratings with the other horses but he enjoys the summer ground and comes into himself once a year and wings his fences.
"I'm 28, have had six point-to-point winners and that's good to get that first racecourse winner out of the way."
