Ampeson (100/30) recorded consecutive Dundalk wins today as the Pat Murphy trained gelding provided part-owner Derek Leonard with a poignant win in the Find Us On Facebook Apprentice Handicap.
Getting off the mark at the 16th attempt over course and distance winner nine days ago, the son of Mayson today, again under jockey Jake Coen, followed up when defeating Sondheim by half a length.
Derek Leonard, agent for the winning Newbridge Or Nowhere Syndicate later said “I want to dedicate the race to a good friend of mine who we buried today in Mullingar, Jimmy Rooney.
“It's gone from a low today, having buried him just three hours ago, to a high now, recording a double here with Ampeson.
“Pat Murphy is doing a really good job and I've been involved in probably 20 winners with him, between syndicates and horses I've had myself. We had the likes of Hit The Silk, Koybig and Duke Of Waspington.
“He's a great trainer and all credit has to go to him.”
