Los Amigos made a winning debut over fences on his first start for Jim Dreaper when taking the concluding beginners chase at Fairyhouse this afternoon.
Eddie O’Connell’s mount inherited the led six from home in the 2m5f event and galloped on well in the closing stages to hold on to it.
2/1 favourite Grand Jesture threw down a big challenge at the last but couldn’t match Los Amigos on the run-in as he kept on for a length success. Ballyburke ran on late to finish third.
The winner had been placed twice in bumpers and hurdles but opened his account at the first time of asking over fences. He was making his first start since April.
“I only have him a few weeks and really Barry Potts would have done all he prep work with him,” said Dreaper.
“He’s a horse that stays well and while I’d say he’s not quite top-class you could still see him back here on Easter Monday (for the Irish National).”
