On outing number nineteen on the racecourse proper Graney Town shed his maiden tag coming home in front in the McWilliam Park Hotel Handicap Hurdle at Ballinrobe under Niall Kelly.
Owned by Paul Doolin and trained by Peter McCreery, Graney Town ran one of his better races at Bellewstown 17 days back when fifth, and he went and built on that in this two mile five furlong contest.
The son of Alkaadhem came through from mid-division to lead before two out and he stayed on well on the run-in to oblige by three lengths over Ballygill Princess Carrow Queen was struggling in a dispute of second when making a bad mistake and unseating Mikey Fogarty at the last.
"That wasn't before time. He's more of a chaser really. He jumps so well and was second in a point-to-point," said McCreery.
"He'll go chasing next summer. He only likes the good ground so there is no point running him in the winter.
"I wouldn't think the handicapper will put him up too much for that."
B.M. Cash, rider of Some Tank trained by Aidan Anthony Howard, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount stopped quickly after the second last.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Some Tank, trained by Aidan Anthony Howard, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be distressed post race.
