Alhellal off mark at second attempt
Alhellal came with a well-timed run to claim the concluding Tim Kelly Electrical Maiden Hurdle at Ballinrobe. Imperial Joey had made a bid for home after the second last but couldn't hold the charge of Alhellal, who hit the front turning into the straight.
Davy Russell 's mount took a bit of a chance with the final flight but got over safely to post a two-and-a-half length success.
The winner had been a moderate fifth on his jumping debut here last month but that run obviously did him the world of good.
"We'll try and head for a winners' of one", said trainer Maurice Phelan afterwards.
"He's not a winter horse and we may just go for one more before putting him away for next spring."
