Alghanem (8/1 in the shops into 9/4) joined Thebarberkelly and Prince Of Fashion as big successful morning price plunges to be landed at Dundalk in the last couple of weeks. He convincingly landed the concluding third division of the Christmas Race & Dine Apprentice Handicap under Danny Mullins.
Mullins, sporting the Mahmoud Abdulkhaleq colours on the Maurice Phelan-trained top-weight, led under two furlongs out and he was soon pushed clear.
The Soviet Star gelding stayed on strongly in the final furlong to beat That's Ours by three and a half lengths.
Phelan said: "It's not before his time. He wasn't quite right the last day but he worked fierce well the other morning and we knew he was back to himself.
"He'll come back here again and he'll be a nice hurdle horse for the summer." (AM & EM)
