Alderwood takes feature for Mullins & Walsh
The feature race on the final day of the Killarney July Festival, the Dawn Milk Run Handicap Hurdle, went the way of Alderwood for trainer Tom Mullins and jockey Mark Walsh.
The 7yo gelding won his maiden hurdle over the course at the May meeting in good style beating Eyre Apparent by a comfortable four and a half lengths.
He since finish sixth, just under eight lengths behind Redera at Roscommon on yielding to soft ground.
Running in just his second handicap hurdle here, the son of Alderbrook took up the lead on the run to the second last, where he made a mistake. However he recovered quickly from that and stayed on best to beat off all challengers. Akinspirit returned to his best, to finish a good second just two lengths behind at 12/1, while the 4/1 favourite, Idarah got up for third, four lengths back.
