Akeed Mofeed ran out the comprehensive winner of the Listed Platinum Stakes over a mile at Cork for John Oxx and Niall McCullagh.
The talented son of Dubawi, who has had several minor injuries, was taking a step down in class from running fourth in the Irish Derby.
His main opposition today appeared to be David Wachman’s Royal Ascot winner Duntle, but she was pulled out in addition to Royal Blue Star and Taameer. That left five runners and Akeed Mofeed was sent off at 2/5 to oblige.
The result was never in doubt as he stretched away from a furlong and a half out to win by five lengths from Barack (9/1).
“The ground was very testing, but I would never pull him out because of the ground,” John Oxx said.
“I’m not sure what happened him in the Derby. I think it was a mixture of him not staying and blowing up a bit.
“I don’t think he’s a stayer. I think a mile to a mile and a quarter is his trip. They went a good gallop and he quickened up well on the ground.
“We’ll feel our way with him now. He might go for the Kilternan Stakes. He’s entered in the Champion Stakes, but we’ll take our time with him before stepping back to Group 1 company.”
