Affogato justified good support when making a winning start for Ger Lyons at Gowran Park this afternoon.

The Requinto filly has been a promising fifth on her sole outing last August and was backed from 7/2 into 11/10 on her return to action.

Colin Keane tracked the leaders on his mount before slipping through on the inner to lead three furlongs from home.

He asked Affogato for an effort passing the two pole and she held the late charge of Paris Peacock to record a neck success.

The trainer's brother and assistant Shane Lyons said:- She is a very light filly and looks heavier than she actually is. We were running her rather than working her to try and hold onto the weight.

“We could give her a bit of May grass. She’s handled that ground and could be a right one for the backend. Colin said she has enough speed to come back a furlong as well.

“I’m delighted for Ray Grehan and it’s great that she has got her winning bracket.

“The boys will go home and talk about whether we give her a break. She’s a genuine filly and one to look forward to for the backend of the season.

“She had a run for Conor (O’Dwyer) and we were going to run her in Dundalk last October but she was too weak.

“She went home to have a winter behind her and we have been rewarded.”
