Noel Meade completed a first and last race double when Aengus ran out a game winner of the bumper at Fairyhouse.
The four-year-old showed the benefit of his debut run at Naas earlier in the month when sticking to his task well in the closing stages of the two-and-a-quarter mile contest.
Nina Carberry moved up to dispute on the 3/1 winner with just under six furlongs to run and he led turning for home.
8/13 favourite Arkwrisht loomed large in the straight but flattened out when asked for an effort and it was Cappacon who pressed hard inside the final furlong.
Aengus found more in the closing stages to assert for a two-length victory.
“Nina was kicking herself the last day and felt she should have won. He does stay very well, and she said she should have gone earlier at Naas,” said Meade.
“He wants two and a half miles, and he’ll go over hurdles around Christmas time.” Waxies Dargle had taken the opening winners hurdle for the yard.
