Newcomer Adamantly Chosen was the well-backed winner (show 10/1 - 5/1) of the Goffs Land Rover Bumper at Punchestown today, providing a big-race success for jockey Jody Townend and a fourth winner on the day for Champion Trainer Willie Mullins.
Normally a high-class race and won by Hardy Eustace in 2002, just six of today's 23 runners had previous racecourse experience and debutante Adamantly Chosen, a son of Well Chosen, displayed some greeness when beating runner-up Springwell Bay by three parts of a length.
Townend, who has two winners left with her 7lbs claim, had previously won Galway's 2019 Amateur Handicap and a Grade 2 Bumper at February's Dublin Racing Festival and following her latest winner, trainer Mullins reported “Jody was very good on this horse.”
Earlier successful with Echoes In Rain Jazzaway and Chacun Pour Soi Mullins added “he was one of the bargain purchases of the sales (€24,000 last August) and it just shows that you don't have to have huge money to get the winner.
“I'm delighted for Martin Lydon and his family who are involved in the Watch This Space Syndicate. He's had a lot of horses with me down the years including Ebaziyan and Quel Esprit.
“He asked me last year to buy one for himself and the family and we came home with this fella.
When asked if he had shown much at home he responded “obviously not when Patrick didn't ride him!
“I think the whole family like winning around here and we sourced Adamant Approach (close relation) here one day when we saw him in a schooling bumper.”
