- 32nd time lucky for Garamor Boy
32nd time lucky for Garamor Boy
With the 6/4 favourite Henro Boy brought down by the fall of Schinkel at the very first hurdle, the Martinstown Opportunity Maiden was suddenly made all the more open and Garamor Boy despite looking reluctant leaving the parade ring and taking some encouragement to break into a canter, was the one to take advantage, making all in the two and a quarter miler under Martin Burke at Downpatrick. Kid Curry tried hard on the run-in to get to the thirty one times previously raced 90-rated victor (that's 27Ibs below Henro Boy's mark) but the successful seven-year-old Tamayaz gelding kept going gamely to prevail.
Oliver Brady trains the winner who was clipped from 25s into 20s on track. Brady wasn't present with Cheltenham preview nights (his own one is tomorrow night in Castleblaney) to the forefront of his attentions at present.
The winning owner Colm O'Higgins is from Newcastle in County Down and he is in the electrical business. This was his first winner with the first horse he's bred.
For Martin Burke this was a third winner since joining the professional ranks. He is of course from Thurles and he is a brother to Julie, a jockey on the level now based cross-channel.
There were bans here for disobeying the starters orders - Martin Burke (2 days), Tim Carroll (3 days - previous record taken into account) and Declan Bates (2 days).
