142/1 Dundalk double for Whelan
Ronan Whelan is happy with his evening's work

After his double here on November 6th, Ronan Whelan repeated the feat with a 142/1 first and last race brace. A good evening's work for Whelan was completed when Political Policy came out on top in the Floodlit Friday Nights Rated Race.
Indeed it could have been even better for Whelan, had his other mount Havelock Ellis improved marginally on what he achieved when going down by just half a length in second place in the 7.35.
All of the Frank Lynch-owned and Gavin Cromwell-trained Political Policy's wins have come at Dundalk, and he made it five on the polytrack when getting the better of Reckless Lad by half a length.
"Ronan rode him very positively. As he's getting a little older he's staying better and needs to be ridden more positively," commented Cromwell.
"We'll keep him going here. Frank is from Dundalk. This is his Cheltenham and he loves it."
F.M. Berry, rider of Great Wide Open trained by Charles O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran too free.
