This is fantastic and was five years coming (since horse's last success)! . I had him tuned up for today and everything was going to plan at home and he was beating everything. He has a turn of foot, that's what you need and always showed it at home. He had problems the last few years with his back but we got that sorted and this is great. It is amazing for the old man - he loves this sport and and this is his thing. We are riding out 14, it is a small family operation and we have a few nice horses at home at the moment.

To be honest Galway was a rush job and he missed ten days two weeks out from the race and I shouldn't have really gone there but it was the aim for a long time. It was a mistake by me to send him,. He definitely took a blow in the dip there in a very competitive race, this was calmer waters, and he needed to be 110 percent going into it but was probably just short. I didn't have to do much after that, that put him right. He's come here against a lesser grade and won well. He's a lovely horse, the last day is the first day he was ever out of the money. He wasn't expensive as a store and he's been a really good servant to us and hopefully he's got another good year ahead. He's still a novice up until Christmas so we'll try and exploit that if we can.

He has improved with every run and it was a pity the last day when he came down as he was booked for third. Going down to the last today I was hoping he wouldn't do anything silly or miss but he picked up and quickened well. It would have been nice if one of our own lads had ridden him but Keith (Donoghue) gave him a great ride. It's great for Gay and Dymphna Keeley (owners) and Gay rang me one day to see if there was any horse for sale around and this horse was bought from Andrew Lynch (jockey). Andrew is a good buddy of mine and he recommended him for selling. He is versatile ground-wise and I'd say he'll go on soft ground. The job is done with him now and we'll see what happens.
