I know he was last in Limerick but he was only beaten four and a half lengths. He also ran well behind Verhoyen on his previous run. His form figures don't look good but he's not being beaten far. He loves this place, was dropping down in grade and the handicapper has given him a chance. He was rated 103 and we retired him last year after he had a year off. We brought him back in and used him as a lead for the yearlings over the winter and his joints were really good and he stayed sound. He loves it. It's great for Joe (Keeling, owner). He's been very good to me and it's nice to reward him. I'd love to have another crack at the Bold Lad on Champions Weekend if he got into it. He's probably not high enough but he could run again here on the 27th. If he won again he could get in.

I was going to run him in the Concorde last weekend but the ground was so bad I'd only tear the heart out of him. We said we'd take a chance at six (furlongs) and Joe (Keeling, owner) was quite keen to give it a go. I thought he might get a bit outpaced but he was always comfortable and he was so genuine. The finish is testing here and we felt that would play into his hands.

I felt the ground was a bit quicker off the rail and it didn't look like there was going to be anything to make the running so we said we would play to our strengths. There were a few six-furlong horses and we knew our horse stayed well. Turning in he got two or three lengths on them and that's what won it for him. He's tough and was pricking his ears just doing enough in front. I'm delighted as I bred him and it means that bit more. We still have the mare at home. I was just hoping to get a bit of black type today but didn't expect to win. We will probably look for a similar type of race again or maybe take him to England for something like a Hunt Cup. He's entered in the Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown next month so that's a possibility, and he has more options now than he had before today.

I'm only after saying that the handicapper has been a bit unfair on him so obviously I'm wrong. I've always thought seven furlongs was his trip and he likes to come off a fast pace. Everything worked out for him today. He nearly travelled too well and got there too soon. He does everything on the bridle. Some people might say he doesn't try too hard but I honestly think he just does everything on the bridle. He battled well today though and the biggest problem is that he's been doing too much too early. Billy gets on well with him. He drops his hands on him and gets him switched off. I think there is a race in Dundalk for him in a couple of weeks or we could look at the Knockaire Stakes on the last day at Leopardstown. I bred him so it would be nice to get some black-type for my mare. This is great, especially for Joe (Keeling, owner), who has been a great supported of mine from the start.

He handles that ground better than most and wants seven furlongs or a mile. He'd a couple of good runs and deserved that win. There is a strong headwind and we didn't really want to make it. Luckily one of Ger's (Greek Canyon) went on. We'll have a look now at the Cambridgeshire, and also the big seven-furlong handicap on Irish Champions Weekend.

that's my first flat winner - finally! . It means a lot to have a winner for Joe (Keeling, owner) who has been with me since the start and I also bred him myself. I've always liked him but he's been immature and Niall (McCullagh) said today he was still very green. The further he was going though the further he was going away. We were going to go to Galway on Tuesday, but came here for this race instead and I think seven furlongs is his trip. I've 10 riding out, mainly flat horses with a couple of dual-purpose ones.
