Asterion Forlonge always likes to jump right, that's just his way of doing it but overall he jumped well. His jumping isn't going to change now with his age but it was a good performance. We went a nice gallop, didn't hang around and it is nice to get another win with him. I gave him a pop yesterday and he has always been a very good jumper at home and just has his own way of doing it. He is a high class horse and was bang there in those top Grade 1 chases so the ability is there. He has been around a long time, he has been a right horse and they (himself and Sir Gerhard) are two top horses so it is great to get the opportunity to ride them.

That was a nice performance and he’s got his confidence back over hurdles anyway. We’ll probably stick to hurdles now this season and he may go down the Stayers' Hurdle route. He jumped well at Naas until he fell and it took him a while to recover from that fall. I thought looking at him going down to the start that he looked big and I’d be hoping there is more improvement.

My heart jumped and he stood so far back at it. I hope his back is alright in the morning as he caught it and did well to stand up, and Paul did well to stay on him. But that is what novices do and it is great to make that mistake early in the race as it puts manners on the horse and he jumped fine after that. Paul thought he wasn't racing so, after the fourth-las,t sent him up and was in his hands. He had just been a bit lazy and maybe cantering around on his own on our gallop, he probably thought he was having a quiet day. We teach them, especially the staying chasers, to settle on the mornings they're not working but we were probably overdoing it. I imagine he will go to Cheltenham with very little experience and maybe just that run as I don't see anything else in the calendar for him. We might take our chance and go straight there, maybe for the 2m4f Turners chase or the three-mile race (Brown Advisory Novices' Chase) - they'll be going that bit slower and it'll give him a chance. We're not that well represented in the three-mile race yet but who knows what'll happen between now and then.

I was disappointed how he jumped down the back, he galloped through two or three hurdles. I was giving out before the race that the second last was taken out but halfway down the back I said maybe it's a good thing. He jumped the second last well and jumped the last well and galloped the whole way to the line which was fantastic. He hung off the bend past the stands and then was all over the place going to the hurdle past the stand. Was he just idling in front, I don't know, or was something annoying him. We'll find out when Paul comes back in. He got very keen on Paul around the top bend and when he got keen he didn't jump well. He was so efficient here at Christmas, he jumped like a handicapper so I was disappointed with his jumping. I'm not really worried about his jumping, I think he just had a blip there today. I think he could go either way, I'd have no trouble going to the Supreme Novices' with him or to the Ballymore. We'll see what is in either race and then make our minds up. He settles well enough in a two mile race and he has stamina for two-and-a-half.

He’s a very good jumper and I’m happy to see him coming out and doing that. I’d like to climb the ladder if I could but he might just have to go into a Graded race next — maybe the Dublin Racing Festival or something like that but I think he’s up to it.

I have to say well done to the Cullentra (Elliott) team. He came in great condition. The first night he came, we didn’t have any of the feed he’d been eating at Cullentra, so we just gave him our usual feed — and he didn’t miss an oat. He’ll probably go for the Champion Bumper at Punchestown. We’ll have a word with (owners) Cheveley Park, but that would look the obvious target. They are two good horses, and I’m delighted to have them. Looking at it, Kilcruit looks like a Ballymore horse and Sir Gerhard a Supreme type (next season).

It's been a great couple of days with eight winners here and a winner in Wetherby too. A few got beaten and a few won and that's the way it is, but I'm very happy with the way it went.
