I'm very happy with that. He loves racing like that and it took him a mile and a half or two miles to warm up. That's his style of racing and he gives much more on the final third of his races. He was getting all the allowances and had his trip and ground. He hasn't given me a moment's worry since he came back but I didn't work him for this race. He's in everything but the John Durkan might come too soon. He'll probably run in the Lexus next.

I thought he (Sir Des Champs) looked a bit big in himself in the parade ring today but he has now won the Hennessy and this race so he has won two of the top chases in Ireland. It was a decisive move by Davy (Russell) when he went on . Davy felt that his jumping kept him in the race although the one in front (Long Run) was jumping out a bit to the left and was probably taking them a bit across with him. We'll be back for Cheltenham again next year and hopefully the ground is a bit better then.

we were hoping he would do that at Christmas but his jumping errors left him too far out of the race at the second last. He got his jumping right today and probably the drier ground helped, plus there was only four runners and the one ahead of him (stablemate Quel Esprit) gave him a good lead. I thought he got low at the early fences and I thought to myself that he would have to improve, which he did. Davy was very good on him . he inserted pace four out when he looked around and saw that Flemenstar was going so well. He had to do that to win and make a staying race of it. The further he was going, I thought the better he was going. I was worried early on had Quel Esprit gone fast enough, even for himself as he is a galloper, and needs plenty of pace. Paul (Townend, jockey) reported that he blew up and that he is now really coming back to himself.

He was fortunate (at the last) just watching it again there and Davy did well to stay on. That's his first Grade 1 and I didn't mind the fact that he jumped left . that was just from being in front on his own. He'd schooled well out in front before and as we knew there'd be no pace we knew we'd have to go on. We didn't learn anything new today other than that he gets three miles. Davy said he was always cantering. He's a very relaxed horse and I think that'll be a big help to him later in his career.

He made a few errors there but he galloped on nicely from the last. He is improving slowly and he'll go for one of the staying novice chases at Cheltenham . either the Jewson of the RSA.

he is a nice big horse and was bought with chasing in mind. He'll have on or two more runs before the end of the season and handles soft ground well.
