Bunairgead, under Rory Cleary, ran out a good winner of the feature Listed Lenebane Stakes at Roscommon this evening, providing her trainer Jim Bolger with a double on the card (won the first with Home School). The three-year-old daughter of New Approach finished a creditable eighth behind Just The Judge in the 1000 Guineas at the Curragh in May and she was last seen finishing a close up third behind Venus De Milo in the Listed Naas Oaks Trial late last month. Stepped up in trip to a mile and a half for the first time, she was available at 6/1 this morning, opening on-course at 11/2 before going off at 9/2. Settled in third behind leader Missunited, she closed entering the straight and travelled strongly behind the leaders. She came with her challenge between horses from two furlongs out, soon hitting the front and staying on well from there to draw clear in the final furlong. El Salvador (11/4) finished two and three parts of a length back in second under Joseph O’Brien for his father Aidan, while Majenta was three parts of a length back in third at 14/1 under Chris Hayes for Kevin Prendergast. Qewy went off the well-supported 5/2 favourite (was 6/1 last night with Paddy Power) but he finished a disappointing sixth under Declan McDonogh for John Oxx. Missunited opened the 11/4 favourite last night with Paddy Power but she drifted out to 9/2 on-course having opened at 4/1. After attempting to make all she faded away tamely over a furlong out, coming home last of the eight. Rory Cleary said afterwards: "She travelled great for me all the way and I got a lovely split at the right time. She put the race to bed fairly quickly."

I rode her the other day and she was fierce well in herself. She loves it here. She won here last September with Bryan Cooper under hands and heels from the bend and it was kind of the same today. We'll look at Listowel (the Listed race there) and there is a two mile race for her at the Curragh at the end of September. She had an easy enough race today. Of course in time she'll make a lovely broodmare as she has a heart of gold. In fairness to Seamie too, he has always given us great confidence with her and the day in Roscommon when she wasn't quite right he minded her.

It was a ding dong battle between two top men and there was no quarter given. She jumped fantastic during the week and again today. I was more confident early in the week but the ground was terrible today and she will be better on better ground. She will be entered in the Grade 1 at Fairyhouse and then Punchestown as well.

She is in as good a form as ever she was. She was really pulling us around the parade ring. Niall gave her a great ride. She was a little bit unlucky at Leopardstown and it's nice to give someone another chance after making a mistake. She will go for the Cesarewitch now and probably won't go up much for that win so there is no reason not to go for it. She probably wasn't in love with the ground but she has loads of stamina. Since Galway we have been walking on cloud nine and even the best dressed lady wore purple yesterday, I'm even claiming that one, I've set a trend! (referring to the purple pants he wore the day Rebel Fitz won the Galway Hurdle).

We just got away with the ground. Seamie said she's a mare that puts it all in and that she's superfit. The run in Ballinrobe the last day brought her on,. She's entered at Galway next Tuesday, in a winners of one hurdle, and she'll run if the ground is safe. The uphill finish will suit her. Once the horses are healthy and right we may as well keep firing.

We are delighted with that. It looked like she laboured a bit but that's her ground and she is very honest. She is not qualified for a novice hurdle we had our eye on at Listowel but we will find another one for her somewhere.

Bryan gave her a great ride. She was a little bit free but she settled well in front. Bryan gave her a bit of breather before the straight to fill up her lungs. She ran in a schooling hurdle around three weeks ago where she finished fourth or fifth but she has really coming into herself since. She has showed plenty of stamina and will be a great jumper. She may go for a flat race now or she could come back here in September for a Novice Hurdle.

To be honest I'd have been disappointed if she'd been beaten but I've been disappointed before. She reminds me of Sonia O'Sullivan in that she is lean, mean and there isn't a pick on her. Niall gave her a fine intelligent ride and she'll go the mares bumper route now.

She is a nice one. If it was a Mares bumper we would have fancied her like mad! . She ran well at Limerick where the winner probably wanted the good ground but we wanted it soft. She thrives on soft ground but it was bit dead today. She is flat bred but I would love to go hurdling with her. She will go for a winners of one, mares bumper at Wexford next and the more rain the better.
